Description

This 14 in. Butterfly Valve is made from Carbon Steel, Cast with a Lugged connection with a Class 150 pressure rating.

Butterfly valves use flat, circular discs that pivot in the center of pipes to regulate fluid flow by means of a quarter-turn motion. Butterfly valves are popular in a variety of applications due to their relatively simple design and usage. They have slim face-to-face dimensions and are excellent at sealing. As quarter-turn valves, they are also easier to actuate. They can be operated with levers, gear operators, or actuators.

A lugged connection is a type of connection where the valve body has threaded lugs (or ears) that align with the bolt holes of joining flanges. Unlike a wafer-style connection, adjoining flanges get bolted directly into the body of the valve. This design allows for sections of pipeline to be removed on one side while keeping the valve connected on the other side - simplifying repairs.

Carbon Steel is the most common and widely used form of steel worldwide due to its strength, workability, and cost. Carbon Steel is an alloy of Iron that uses carbon as the primary alloying element. As a term, Carbon Steel generally means the component does NOT qualify as Stainless Steel, which is more resistant to corrosion.

Applications of Butterfly Valves

  • Marine & Offshore Fluid Systems
  • HVAC Systems
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Chemical Systems

Advantages of Lugged Connections

  • Can provide Dead End Service
  • Stronger Connection than Wafer
  • Usable in the Hull of a Ship per ABS

Properties of Carbon Steel

  • Low Cost
  • High Strength
  • Weldability
