Description

This 2-1/2 in. Gate Valve is made from Carbon Steel, Cast with a Flanged connection. Features TRIM 8 (CR13/HF) Trim. Outside Stem & Yoke (OSY). Class 300 pressure rating.

A marine gate valve is a linear motion valve designed to start or stop the flow of fluid in shipboard piping systems. It operates by raising or lowering a wedge-shaped gate between two seating surfaces, providing a tight seal when closed. Gate valves are typically used in applications where a full, unobstructed flow is required, but they are not ideal for throttling since partial opening can cause vibration and wear. In marine environments, they are built to withstand seawater corrosion, high pressure, and comply with Navy and MIL-SPEC standards for reliability and safety.

Flanged connections utilize a flat circular plate with bolt holes to join valves to piping. This connection allows for easy disassmbly for maintenance or replacement without the need to cut the pipe. Flanged valves found on most working boats because they are reliable and easy to remove for overhaul.

Carbon Steel is the most common and widely used form of steel worldwide due to its strength, workability, and cost. Carbon Steel is an alloy of Iron that uses carbon as the primary alloying element. As a term, Carbon Steel generally means the component does NOT qualify as Stainless Steel, which is more resistant to corrosion.

Advantages of Gate Valves

  • Simple Design
  • Low flow resistance and minimal drop in pressure
  • Bidrectional sealing
  • Tight shutoff

Flanged Connection Advantages

  • Easy Installation and Disassembly
  • Versatility
  • Durability and Strength
  • Reduces System Stress

Properties of Carbon Steel

  • Low Cost
  • High Strength
  • Weldability
